Americas: Violent clashes between gang and vigilante groups erupt in Haiti

Sectors: all
Key Risks: violent clashes; targeted attacks; gang violence

In Haiti, on 29 March violent clashes erupted between the Gran Grif gang and vigilante groups in Petite-Riviere de l’Artibonite, Artibonite department, after the gang set houses on fire and left bodies scattered across the streets of the Jean-Denis neighbourhood. It remained unclear how many people were killed in the attack that marked the latest escalation in gang violence in the country. Vigilante groups began to emerge in 2023 in response to escalating violence in the country, with vigilante justice complicating the ongoing conflict as well as efforts by international forces to pacify the country. The United Nations reported that at least 5,519 people were killed and 2,608 were injured between 1 March 2025 and 15 January 2026 due to gang violence as armed groups expand their territorial control beyond the capital Port-au-Prince. The risk of violence will remain extremely high.

Asia Pacific: Communist Party of Nepal supporters launch protests over former PM Oli’s arrest

Sectors: all
Key Risks: disruptive unrest; political polarisation; violent clashes

In Nepal, on 30 March supporters of the Communist Party of Nepal (CNP-UML) clashed with police in Kathmandu during protests denouncing the arrest of former prime minister KP Sharma Oli on 28 March. No casualties were confirmed. Demonstrators burned tires and copies of the government-led commission that endorsed the arrest of Oli and key members of his cabinet for their alleged role in the violent crackdown on protesters, which killed at least 70 people, during the country’s 8 to 13 September 2025 ‘Gen Z’ uprising. Oli denied all wrongdoing, denouncing the commission as “character assassination and hate politics”. Simultaneously, CPN-UML officials announced that they would hold organised nationwide protests “in phases” of an unspecified nature and timeline. The risk of disruptive, potentially violent, unrest is expected to remain likely in the coming days as CPN-UML supporters rally against perceived political bias against Oli.

Eurasia: US links Ukraine’s security guarantees to giving up Donbas as peace talks stall

Sectors: all
Key Risks: war-on-land; war-at-sea; targeted attacks; supply chain disruptions

On 25 March Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the US was making its offer of security guarantees to Kyiv conditional on giving up control of the Donbas region to Russia. Kyiv has thus far resisted Russian demands to secure control of the remaining Ukrainian-held parts of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblast due to the likely domestic political fallout and the strategic significance of the mountainous terrain for defence. Zelensky warned that Moscow was shaping the US approach to peace talks while Washington is focused on the ongoing Middle East war. This came amid intensifying Ukrainian drone attacks on Russia’s oil export facilities, including several attacks on the Baltic ports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga since 23 March, which led to a halt in operations. Kyiv will continue such attacks to curb Moscow’s growing oil revenues, while US pressure on Kyiv to make further concessions will continue.

Europe: France detains suspects over attempted IED attack on Bank of America in Paris

Sectors: all
Key Risks: terrorism; targeted attacks

In France, on 28 March two more suspects were detained by counter-terrorism police over a foiled attack on Bank of America’s offices in Paris. This came after on 28 March a minor was detained after he attempted to light an IED in the city’s 8th arrondissement. The minor was reportedly contacted on social media platform Snapchat and paid EUR600 (US$690) to carry out the attack. The incident came amid a string of attacks targeting US and Israeli-linked facilities and Jewish communities across Europe. Neighbouring Belgium and the Netherlands have recorded at least two and three such attacks, respectively. Pro-Palestinian activists, Iranian-linked extremist cells and narcotrafficking groups have carried out previous such attacks. Further such incidents are likely amid the escalating Middle East war, particularly on US and Israeli-linked finance or defence firms and Jewish places of gathering.

MENA: Missiles fired from Yemen as Huthis enter Middle East war, opening new front

Sectors: all
Key risks: business risks; trade disruptions; war-at-sea; targeted attacks; regional escalation

In Yemen, on 28 March the Huthis confirmed that they launched at least two waves of attacks on Israel, marking their entry into the Middle East war. A Huthi spokesperson stated a salvo of ballistic missiles was fired at what he described as sensitive military targets in southern Israel. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated the attacks were intercepted, with no casualties reported. As a result, on 30 March Brent crude climbed 2 per cent to US$114.83 a barrel – a total increase of approximately 58 per cent since the war began on 28 February. Their involvement raises concerns for global shipping in the Red Sea amid the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The last Huthi attack on a vessel occurred on 29 September 2025, just before operations paused following the 10 October 2025 Gaza ceasefire. The resumption of Huthi attacks on vessels is likely.

Sub-Saharan Africa: 74 killed by unidentified assailants in latest attack on mines in South Sudan

Sectors: all;  mining
Key risks: targeted attacks; communal violence; political violence; trade disruption

In South Sudan, on 29 March at least 73 miners and an unknown number of soldiers were killed and 25 others injured by unidentified assailants during an attack on Jebel Iraq, Central Equatoria state. Military investigations are underway into the assailants, with the Sudan People’s Liberation Army – In Opposition (SPLA-IO) rebel group condemning the attack and denying involvement. The area near Jebel Iraq has faced multiple attacks since 2025 as armed elements seek to control the key mining area. Attacks on mining areas have increased since March 2025, as hostilities between Juba and the SPLA-IO continue to expand. The military swiftly deployed to the area, with reprisal attacks likely in the coming weeks. Growing competition for control over mineral sites amid a worsening security outlook for the country will likely lead to intensified armed group activity and greater levels of disruption to the economy.
